Dear Parent/Guardians,
I would like to thank everyone for their overwhelming support of our program here at Lassiter. I am blessed to work with such talented and motivated students. I understand that putting together this program is a tremendous commitment. I work hard to make sure that the students excel not only creatively, but academically and socially. I am sending this letter home for this very reason.
I understand that the time commitment may seem long. No other extra- curricular activity is required to make their own uniforms, sets, props etc. this takes time and effort on the part of each student. I understand what this must do and I will try to accommodate everyone’s prior commitments and plan on being as flexible as the process lends us to be.
Before the start of a new show, I wanted to make clear what the time commitment is for any of our productions. Each of our participants receives a rehearsal schedule at the beginning of the production. I strive for punctuality. It is encouraged that our students to arrive 10 minutes prior to rehearsal so that they can begin on time and therefore end promptly as well. If they have any conflicts they must communicate that completely before the first rehearsal. Conflicts will not have an impact on most roles except perhaps the main characters of the show.
The time commitment expected for each production is approximately 15 – 20 hours a week. Of course the most amount of time comes during the last week of the production when the late hours are necessary to pull everything together. Many of our parents who have been involved in past productions can tell you how important this week is for the play/musical. To try and rehearse any less would sacrifice the quality of the productions. We are aware that this is not “Hollywood,” but just as you would not want to be involved with a losing football team, neither would our students or ourselves want to be involved in a dismal production. Our performances are seen by theatergoers from all over our community and seen as “PR” for the district. To put forth anything less would be a disservice to our students as well as our district.
